Peruvian News July 2017

Fr Abbot visited the Community in Peru from 15th to 22nd July.
On 22nd July our three aspirants began the next stage of their monastic formation as they became postulants.
They are Br Ascensio Quispe Ynquillay from Cuzco, Br Pedro José Córdova Bayona from Chiclayo and Br Luis Alberto Altamirano Julca from Trujillo.
The aspirancy lasts six months and the postulancy a year. Fr Alex, the Superior, is in charge of their formation.
On the same day six lay people, three men and three women, began their noviciate as Oblates. This is the second group in Peru, there being already five professed Oblates.
Br Mario is the Oblate Master.
The community now produces its own bread and purifies its own drinking water. Br Juan Edgar is the master baker.
A week earlier, during a regional meeting of Benedictines and Cistercians that took place in Bogotá, Colombia, Fr Alex was elected President of ABECCA (The Association of Benedictines and Cistercians of the Caribbean and the Andes).
ABECCA brings together monastic communities of men and women in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Martinique, St Lucia, Trinidad, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
We commend our brethren in Peru to your prayers and thank all those who contribute towards their life and work.
